May of 2013 saw the 10th anniversary of tour and
to pay homage the boys headed to the home of golf at St. Andrews.
After 9 years, the previous team format of the Young Men versus the Old Men was disbanded after 8 wins and 1 draw being recorded for the Young Men.
It was agreed to redefine the teams and we elected for the Fat Men versus the Thin Men. To save the blushes many of the Fat Team refer this to The North versus the South, based on their main residence as a child being either North or South of the local shops.
It was with great anticipation that we met up at St. Andrews to test this new format and it was perhaps fitting that the 1st year attempt with the new teams that the overall result was a draw.
For the first time, since the first year away, we had an abandoned round, with the 5th round of the tour at the Castle Course being called off due to frankly ridiculous conditions. We endured ferocious weather conditions for much of the round, and even after a pause at the turn it was agreed to leave the course after some 10 or 11 holes. It should be noted that the Fat Men were level in one game and two up the other, so perhaps there is a moral victory to be had after all.
Ironically, the Thin Man Team mentally enjoyed a victory as when 2 points clear with 2 games to go they believed the result was a foregone conclusion. How wrong could they be!
It is exciting to have some competition for the years ahead and perhaps we will see some real competition going forward.
